Essex based Great Oaktree Land services have been working on the preparatory works at the planned new nuclear power station for the past 6 months and have just finished their work supporting the creation of the new Marsh Harrier Habitat to the north of the site.  Established in 2017, Great Oaktree land services have spent the last couple of years working to get themselves ‘ready’ for Sizewell C.

Through the ongoing support from the lead contractors on the project, in addition to the guidance and support of the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, the business is now growing rapidly both in terms of turnover and also employing new people to work on the companies’ various packages of work, including Sizewell C.  In 2022, The business also received recognition with one of their senior team winning ‘pro landscaper 30 under 30’

Speaking about how Sizewell C has positively impacted his business, Owner Ainsley Bird, commented: “Sizewell C is a huge opportunity for us to work on large scale projects, whilst giving us the support and attention we need to help us develop as a business.

“It is giving us financial security through these tough times and is enabling us to invest in our existing workforce.  We have recently invested nearly £10,000 on training and development programs and this includes bringing in dedicated mental health officers to support our workers.”

Julia Hale, Suffolk Chamber of Commerce business advisor for the Sizewell C supply chain, has spent time supporting Great Oaktree, “We are keen to ensure as many local SME’s play their part in Sizewell C and are passionate that we can ensure the best possible legacy is left for businesses across our region.  What pleases us most is when business owners like Ainsley step up, grab this opportunity with both hands and really make this most of it.”

Adding more, Ainsley said “the Chamber and Sizewell C have really gone to extra lengths to help us be able to make the most of our chance.  They supported us when we were first working on the project and Julia and the rest of the team have been on hand at any time for me to question and clarify things with them.  The whole process really does work, and we urge all businesses to step up and take your place on this project.”
