Ipswich Based Firm, GBS Builders Supports Sizewell C Through Ongoing Partnership with Tier 1 contractor TCI
Suffolk based contractor GBS Builders (Ipswich) Limited is playing an active role in one of the UK’s largest infrastructure projects, supporting the delivery of Sizewell C through its ongoing work with Tier 1 contractor TCI.

With its main office in Ipswich and a secondary base in Bury St Edmunds, GBS Builders has been contributing local expertise to the project since May 2024. The business initially began assisting with the ACA fit-out works and has since continued to support TCI across a range of smaller projects as required. GBS Builders is currently providing site management services, with the contract remaining continuously ongoing.
Specialising in Ancillary Construction Area (ACA) building works, GBS Builders has supplied a flexible and skilled workforce to meet the changing needs of the site. At peak delivery, around 12 to 15 team members were working on Sizewell C, with current involvement standing at approximately two to three personnel. This adaptable approach has enabled the company to respond efficiently while maintaining strong standards of safety, organisation and delivery.
Working on a project of this scale has also brought clear benefits to the business. GBS Builders has invested in upskilling its workforce to meet TCI’s requirements, including SMSTS training for operatives alongside other accredited courses. This has strengthened internal capability and enhanced the company’s ability to operate on complex, highly regulated construction sites.
Strong organisation has been key to success on the project, particularly in ensuring all labour supplied to site is fully certificated and correctly badged. Through careful planning and close coordination, this has been achieved smoothly, supporting safe and efficient progress on site.
Engagement with the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce has helped keep GBS Builders informed and connected throughout its involvement. Regular Supply Chain Engagement communications have provided valuable updates on project activity, upcoming opportunities and social value events, ensuring the company remains closely aligned with the wider Sizewell C programme.
Reflecting on the experience, a representative from GBS Builders said:
“Working at Sizewell for TCI has been a really positive experience. The site is well run, safety is taken seriously, and the TCI team are professional and supportive. TCI provide clear communication, good organisation, and consistent support, which makes the work environment efficient and rewarding. As a local company we have enjoyed being part of the project thus far and look forward to any future works.”
Looking ahead, GBS Builders (Ipswich) Limited plans to continue supporting major regional projects while further developing its people and site management capabilities. Its involvement in Sizewell C has not only delivered immediate opportunities but has also positioned the company for long-term, sustainable growth, showcasing the strength and value of the East of England supply chain.
