SRC Group driving sustainable impact on Sizewell C project
East Anglian contractor SRC Group has delivered new wildlife habitat on behalf of Sizewell C, creating an area of fenland at Halesworth.
The works, which form part of the nuclear power project’s environmental mitigation programme, included the installation of culverts for access and to manage drainage and support water flows into the River Blyth. Land restoration was carried out using with stripped topsoil carefully stockpiled for reuse in future habitat schemes – helping to deliver long-term environmental benefits alongside major infrastructure development.

Founded as an aggregates and reservoir construction company, SRC Group has since evolved into a fully integrated construction and materials business, with a strong focus on sustainability, circular economy principles and delivering regional economic benefit.
Andy Page, Commercial Manager at SRC Group, said: “Working on the Sizewell C project has been a highly positive experience for SRC Group. Our involvement in delivering key earthworks packages has enabled us to demonstrate not only the breadth and quality of our technical capabilities, but also our commitment to operating in line with strong environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles.”
“Through initiatives such as the use of sustainable fuels, responsible material reuse and a focus on local employment and supply chains, we are actively supporting the project’s wider sustainability objectives. This work has further strengthened our position as a trusted delivery partner, both directly to Sizewell C and across the Tier 1 contractor network, and we look forward to continuing to build on this relationship as the project progresses.”
This work is the result of Sizewell C’s biodiversity plans, which take a long-term approach focused on creating new, connected habitats across the landscape, designed to support local wildlife and deliver a 19% net gain in biodiversity.
In addition to creating three new areas of fenland, Sizewell C has also established three new nature reserves, including its flagship site, Wild Aldhurst.
Andy added: “This habitat work is fantastic not just for SRC Group, but also for me personally, as a Sustainability Ambassador for the CIOB (Chartered Institute of Building), as well as being on Sizewell C’s ESG Sustainability Board alongside other key players on the project, where I have the opportunity to share ideas. This work shows that sustainability is not just being talked about, but is being developed further. I think it’s great that I can say to my peers that SRC Group is working on one of the first biodiversity net gain elements of the project.”
Following the habitat mitigation work, and establishing itself within Sizewell C’s supply chain, SRC Group has also worked as a Tier 2 contractor under Tier 1 contractor Kier, providing demolition support on the College on the Coast works, a new education campus opposite Sizewell C’s Ancillary Construction Area (ACA). The College and Apprentice Hub will be a single, two-storey building in Leiston, with space for 150 students, 20 full-time staff, as well as drop-in space for 50 apprentices.
Over the course of the build, the Sizewell C supply chain is set to create 1,500 apprenticeships over the duration of the project. SRC is playing a key role not only in supporting the achievement of this target through its work on the College on the Coast but is also implementing its own initiatives to support apprentices.
Andy confirmed that: “Alongside this, we are also in discussions with West Suffolk College to become a partner in providing work experience to individuals who are taking a Level 1 or 2 Groundworker or Level 1 Plant Operator course.”
As the project continues, so does SRC Group, with additional habitat mitigation works to commence in the later part of 2026 at Pakenham, supporting Sizewell C’s sustainability initiatives further.
“One word to describe the project would be ‘Opportunity’. Opportunity for local businesses, opportunities for young people, opportunities to upskill your business. The Supply Chain Engagement team at the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce has provided various opportunities to grow with the project. We’ve attended nearly every event, and they have also supported us in connecting with the right people and identifying suitable avenues for growth.”
